Betsy DeVos Continues To Respond To Her Critics Through Action Rather Than Words

Betsy DeVos found herself right in the middle of a controversy of sorts not long after she became the secretary of education for the U.S. President Trump had decided to rescind a federal policy that made it ok for transgender students to use any bathroom so long as it was a match for the gender they identified with. DeVos had a meeting with a representative of transgender and gay workers from the Department of Education to let them know what Trump was about to do. DeVos had been said to have been against the decision by the president, but she never gave any indication of this in the public. She even gave a speech at the yearly Conservative Political Action Conference, where she stated that the Obama administration had gone beyond its reach to approve of the policy, in the first place.

This led some people to mistakenly think that Betsy DeVos would be the kind of secretary of education who didn’t think for herself. This couldn’t be any further from the truth. For those who have been following the career of DeVos, they know that she has always stood up for what she believes in. She is usually very civil in public, and she treats her political opponents with respect. On the other hand, she is a fighter who has a way of using her wealth to support her allies and to strengthen the causes she supports.

As Betsy DeVos was confirmed to serve in Washington D.C. as the secretary of education, many people believed she wouldn’t be able to handle the pressure of power politics. Others like Mike Cox, who once served as a state attorney general, commented that DeVos is not one to be trifled with and that she is a very focused woman. Randi Weingarten, one of the leaders of a large teachers union, also commented that DeVos is dangerous and that she shouldn’t be underestimated. People from the state of Michigan also know, very well, that DeVos has fought time-and-time-again to make the state a better place to call home.

Betsy DeVos usually backs up her words with action, and she has talked about building bridged between the Republican and Democrat parties for the sake of the people. Her focus is mainly on the school system in her country, and she immediately began to cross the political aisle as soon as she became the nation’s secretary of education. She has also continued to promote charter schools and recently paid a visit to Florida, where she appeared with the rapper Pitbull. She also visited an all-girls charter school in Washington D.C. to show her support and was joined by Melania Trump as well as Queen Rania of Jordan.
