Alex Pall and Drew Taggart Reveal How They Met
Mathias Rosenzweig got a hold of the New York EDM/Pop DJ group, the Chainsmokers, shortly after they just released their anticipated single “Closer.” The Chainsmokers are made up of only two members, DJ Alex Pall and producer Andrew Taggart. “Closer” features electro-pop star Halsey and Taggart makes his singing debut on the track. Rosenzweig started off by asking the members how they started collaborating. Pall explained that a former member was about to leave the group for undisclosed reasons and his manager’s friend had found the perfect replacement in 2012.

Andrew Taggart was an aspiring music producer and was interning at Interscope Records during college in Syracuse, New York. He was just starting out in DJing scene and had put several songs out on SoundCloud and did a few college shows before joining the Chainsmokers. When Taggart came to New York City to meet up with Pall at an art show, they instantly knew from the get-go that they would work well together. Taggart stayed in Pall’s apartment and they started producing new tracks for the Chainsmokers. They both felt that they didn’t need to fit into a certain mold in the electronic dance scene. The two would unabashedly mix dance, hip hop, indie, pop, synth and more genres into their music and it led to chart-topping hits, awards and more.
As the Chainsmokers blown to mainstream stardom their audience, who were originally made up of mostly college kids, now had people of all ages and from every corner of the globe. The two had to change up their live shows as their audience got bigger and better. They now spend almost as much time as making music by helping their visualist develop original content for their live shows. The Chainsmokers have already toured the world several times around and are due for another.
